Can anyone explaing to me the meaning of the following terms.
CAE(computer aided engineering)
CIM(computer integrated manufacturing)

Where do cad/cam stand in relation with cae and cim?

regards,
Yogesh

CAD - Computer Aided Drafting
CAM - Computer Aided Machining
CAE - Computer Aided Engineering

Between those3 I think you can, or should be able tell the difference.

CIM - Computer Integrated Manufacturing - CIM, is the phrase used to
describe the complete automation of a manufacturing plant....

If you do a search through Yahoo you could find this information out there.
I ran a search and found lots of information concerning it.

Regards,
Scott

Further
CAD = SolidWorks and the like
CAM = Gibs CAM and the like
CAE = Cosmos Works/Flow Works and the like
CIM = I don't know

CAD - Computer Aided Drafting

CAD can also be Computer Aided Design. I do lots of design and very little
drafting.

As far as I understand
CAD can stand for both Computer-Aided Drafting or Design.
CAM = Computer-Aided Manufacturing
and
CAD/CAM reflects the integration of design with manufacturing i.e., the
direct transfer of design model to the workshop machine with no or minimal
human intervention.
CIM = Computer Integrated Manufacturing is diffirent from CAD/CAM because
the former is more adminstrative oriented while the later is purely
technical.

CAE = Computer-Aided Engineering is like CAD/CAM but with wider scope. The
concept is often used to include the analysis side (f.eg. FEM analysis) to
design and manufacturing.
I may say
CAE = CAD/CAPP/CAM + FEM

CAE - it`s widely used for making steering software for CNC machines

CIM (Computer Integrated Manufacturing) - is a utopia in for now, because it
tries to integrate ale the CAx (CAD,CAM,CAPP,CAE,CAQ) systems plus MRP
(Material Request Planning), MRPII (Manufacturing Resource Planing) or
Just-in-Time (Kanban) managment systems...
