What is An AN7805R? I have searched Google only to find it listed as a 3 pin
voltage regulator. BUT, it has FOUR pins. Thanks for any insight.

Are you sure you read that right? The number is a 3 pin 5v fixed linear
voltage regulator.

Hi,
Just for the exercise, I decided to try to find some data on this
device on the net. Free Trade Zone is no longer free for anything. All
other links I followed either led to sites demanding payment for
access to their databases, got me "404" error messages, or did nothing
at all.
How the hell are we supposed to survive in this electronics
business if it's THIS hard to get data on a simple voltage regulator?
Anyway, after about an hour of frustration, I found the data sheet
on the website of Panasonic Industrial Europe at
http://www.piel.co.uk/ by using Dogpile.
The fourth pin is a Reset pin. I've e-mailed you the data sheet. I
hope it helps. :)

Cheers,
Bob

ISTR its a 7805 with an added reset output pin

Further to my last posting, this is the URL to search for info on
Panasonic/Matsushita semiconductors. I suggest you bookmark it like I
have. :)

Like this guy said this 4 leg thing is regular regulator WITH reset
pin output built in for the microcontroller's reset pin.

Usually is 78R05.

I get both results with either 78r05 or an7805r with google.com

Wizard

I'm glad someone else shares my frustration! I was looking at a datasheet
for an NEC microcontroller, hit back on my browser to look at others and got
a stupid notice, "Effective 10/31....subscribers only."

It's now PaidTradeZone.com

It would be a 5-volt regulator with a turn-on pin.

Whoops, maybe I should read some of the other posts before giving my
"wisdom". The reset function does seem reasonable - though I've also seen
those with a turn-on pin.

Bob,
Try this as an easy way to get to the manufacturer's sites if you know the
OEM.

These guys also have a lot of spec sheets, including one for the AN7805R.

I really thank your for your reply and the important info it was. what is this
that you can't even geta spect sheet and I thought I was good at research.
Thank you again. I REALLY appreciate it.

You're welcome! I like to be aware of what data is available out
there, so it was useful to both of us. :)

Bob

Thanks for the info, Leonard!

After wasting time trying to enter the part number into their
stupid little sponsor link disguised as a search box, of course....

That one is much more professional. I'll probably sign up with them
next time I can't find something. :)

I've ordered from them. They never spammed my e-mail address, they
delivered the part I ordered fast, no hassles. They'll send a paper
catalog if you ask.
