What can I do to improve my TV signal?

What about those new digital antennas that look like a flying saucer (they
go in the attic), are they any good? Can I do anything to my aerial
antenna to clean it up the connection or something like that?

These dish antennas are not as good as a full sized directional high gain
antenna on a rotor. Ideally, the antenna must be mounted at an appropriate
height to overcome any obstacles to the horizon.

In the end you would be best off with a satellite or cable service. Antennas
are limited, and are subject to general weather conditions, and
interference.

What about cleaning up the connection at the antenna, by cutting off the end
that is corroded and reconnecting it to the antenna?

Obviously if the connection is corroded, it needs to be cleaned up.....
whether or not that will improve your TV signal significantly can only be
determined once the connection is fixed...... then follow the suggestions in
the reply post by Jerry G.
By the way, do not waste your money on fancy indoor antennas....... a
cheap outside antenna mounted high and in the clear will always outperform
any kind of indoor or attic antenna.
