Weird Canon MP2500/BJ4100 graphics problem

I've cleaned and repaired this multipurpose device several times over the
years. [Engine is same as BJ 4100] It's old but suits my purposes. Same
problem has occurred before but cleared without me knowing exactky what I
did.

It test prints "all characters" perfectly fine, page after page. But test
print of the "demo page" which includes graphics starts fine and then balks
[sounds like a gear is slipping, skips lines, leaves the cartridge at the
left side while the cartridge "sled" keeps moving back and forth] when it
gets to the graphic portion.

Everything is lubricated. Cartridge cleaned.

Any idea what causes this condition or solution?

Thank you.

In case anyone is interested [or has a similar problem] the solution appears
to have been very simple: the "wiper" rubber had become mispositioned and
was very slightly angled. I snapped it back to 90 degrees viz the platen
and graphics now print perfectly.

I'll guess that graphics require a better "wipe" on each pass than do text.
