Set: SONY DVP-C670D - 5 Disc CD/DVD Player
SYMPTOM: Does not read either CD's or DVD's.
MALFUNCTION: Motor spins trying to read the disc and speeds up when it
doesn't.
TROUBLESHOOTING: Cleaned lense as a first step. Visual examination does not
reveal much, except that there three electrolytes that get very warm...They're
located on the second part of the PS and are: 2-330MFD @35V and 1-680MFD @25V.
Will this warming be an indication that those electrolytes are bad? and might
that be the reason why the lense is not reading the discs due to a malfunction
of the same?.
Your answers or advice will be much appreciated.
TIA

Did you look on the underside of the board to see if there is any power
device that can be warming them through the board. If an electrolytic cap
is getting very hot, and there is nothing near by or under it to heat it up,
then I would consider to replace it. The cap should be properly checked
(ESR), and the voltage or any signals going through it should be verified
before considering whether or not there is a fault with the cap.
