hi, i need to make (or obtain) a small class a amp, good for 1mhz.
between 3 - 5 watts would be sufficient, up to 10watts would be good, if
easy enough. my input is about 100mw.

i've looked at lots of websites, but i end up in the audio amp sections.

circuit diagrams + components list would be useful (dickies down the
road and jaycar 30mins away), though if one can be made cheap enough,
i'd perfer to have someone else put it together, and i pay somthign for
time etc.
thanks.

What, you can't use a search engine? I just used Altavista and got plenty of
hits. Go buy the ARRL handbook and have a nice read, you'll learn plenty of
good stuff there.

**Look for a decent and stable MOSFET 50 Watt amp. Bias it into Class A and
lower the rail Volts. Why you would want to build a Class A amp with a
bandwidth to 1 MHz (I assume you made a typo), is beyond any rational
comprehension. Class A is both completely unnecessary and wasteful. 1 Mhz is
just asking for trouble (stability-wise), unless your not thinking about
audio reproduction.

I'm needing 1Mhz because thats the AM broadcast band, and i'm
experimenting with different ways of getting a signal to TX to a usable
distance. I assumed class a would be the easiest way to get 1Mhz,
because of the design being really limited by power consumption, i need
to boost 100mw up to a more usable number to feed in to a class A audio
amplier. its for experimentation purposes. if I feed the 100mw in to the
amp (input connection) and turn the volume pot all the way up with a
bare lead running out from the +ive connection, i get an increase (which
isn't that much really, but should increase a fair bit with higher input
power. its to see what happens when I use an audio amp as an RF amp.

copied written text / images, driven over the speed limit (even by
1KM/H),downloaded am mp3

Why dont you just get a HF (not UHF) CB and use that as your amplifier ?

That way you are using legal bands, and you can talk to the masses,
You will become famous, do it now.

Although it is a bit hard to tell from his post, it seems like the OP is
intending to operate a xmitter of up to 10w on the AM broadcast band - if this
is his intention then he needs to be told that this is NOT a good idea - and
could well result in an unwanted Court attendance.

If the OP could let us know what he wants to achieve, as opposed to his
proposed solution, then some useful suggestions might be given.

Hey Matt,

Isn't it funny that we have so many smart people on the NG who can offer
very useful information, yet can be so stupid when it comes to exchanging
information? From their posts, its obvious that they are book smart and 'by
the law' sort of characters, ya know the kind im talking about...don't ya
just hate law abiding citizens :)

Heres some useful piece of information, if you use it to break the law then
good luck to you and your adventures :)

My advise is fuck the authorities, you may very well be telling the truth
and simply want to perform some experiments, I cant prove it either way so
heres what ya do, visit a search engine and im sure you'll find what your
looking for, a good tip, go through at least 5 - 10 pages of search results
and you'll get what your looking for. Also vary your search terms and use
quotes for exact matches, i.e.. "class a amp" "class a amplifier" make your
own, diy etc....

A lot of search results are 'trimmed back' but the results will be there ;-)
If you think im bullshitting, go to the MSN search engine and type in
'migrating from windows to linux' and you'll get search results of the
'migrating linux to windows' kind. Never trust your search results, use
different engines and new ones. Clusty is quite good. clusty.com

You can also try emailing web sites on further resources, depends on how
desperate you are for the info.

Good luck mate.

Absolutely not enough for what he wants.

All he wants to do is test AM vs FM. why not use CB bands for this ?
