Want to boosting two way radio two miles - 300 channel

I like to boost the reception of my Motorola walkie-talkie two way radio. But
on a flat highway, I'm getting only half a mile away. But I have another set
of radio with 18 channels. This one works up to nearly two miles. The
instructions that came with walkie-talkie says not to connect the antenna to
anything but I'm very tempted. I like to gain the extra distance. What can I
do?

My suggestion would be to stop bothering with FRS, and go out and
get your amateur radio license. Get yourself a General class ticket, and
you can talk halfway around the planet on HF if you want, and no one
will so much as flinch.

You really, REALLY don't want to get on the FCC's bad side, so I
would not suggest following the course you propose (external antenna on
a radio that's not designed for it). Granted, you may never get caught,
but Lord help you if you do. The penalties for unlicensed operation, or
using non type-accepted (for FRS) radios on FRS frequencies are pretty
stiff.

First step towards your amateur license should be to visit
http://www.arrl.org and locate a radio club in your area. They should be
able to help you get started.

Try asking this on alt.radio.pirate, there are certainly some experts on all
sorts of antennas - legal and otherwise (most likely 'otherwise', so please
rethink the idea before starting to build anything).
