Viewsonic E70f-3 Monitor problems.

I have a 17" Viewsonic E70f-3 Monitor that is just out of warranty and
which has just started to show signs of giving me some real problems
in the very near future.
The fault is hard to describe but here goes......! When viewing the
screen the image vibrates or shakes from side to side but only just
enough to identify the movement. The movement is more severe in the
bottom right hand side of the screen. It is not the flickering
associated with frequency settings.
I have been told that repairs are now barely profitable and I would be
up for at least $100.00 which makes it hard to make a decision on
attempting a repair or buying a new monitor.
I am sure that others have experienced the fault I have described and I
am looking for suggestions as to the possible cause(s) of the problem
and perhaps a recommendation as to what I should do.
Although I am technically qualified and have dabbled with electronics
as a hobby, I would not attempt to make a repair unless it was very simple.

You almost certainly have a magnetic field near the monitor, probably a
power supply of some sort. Try moving any equipment or plugpacks that you
have near the monitor further away.

Take a close look around horizontal area. I think, you will find a polyester
capacitor there -- it willl be brown color because of heat.

I moved the monitor to another computer across the room and the shaking
stopped. I do not have anything that could account for the movement near
the old location and the previous monitor was there for about two years.
There is a possibility that my young grandson could have been near it
with a magnet at some time, he was deemed to be responsible for a colour
problem on a TV which went away after degaussing. Thanks again anyway,
at least we didn't have to do any repairs and don't have to buy a new
monitor just yet!

I wouldn't blame your grandson for this problem! A magnet will cause purity
problems as you found before, but won't cause the picture to keep moving
once it's taken away.
Is there any new appliances in adjacent rooms? I have once seen a power amp
that was on a shelf on the other side of the wall cause the problem you
have. I've also seen this problem caused by an air conditioner that was in
the room above and separated by a concrete floor, although it was a large
commercial system. The only solution in this case was to replace the monitor
with an lcd type.
