You could use electric from www.staticfreesoft.com (java) or layout
from layout.sourceforge.net (qt) or magic from www.opencircuitdesign.com
(tcl/tk) or boolean from http://boolean.klaasholwerda.nl/bool.html
(wxWidgets) or maybe some other tool. The last three need to be
compiled, maybe against libraries you don't have available on your
linux box. Electric runs on windows where java-1.6 is readily
available. >layout< is also precompiled for win32 as it is written in
qt4.

I don't know of a way to look at gds inside cadence without first
streaming it in. (The gds data has to be turned into graphical symbols
with all gds tools, and cadence is not a viewer )

If you find a better solution, please post back as quickly viewing gds
is something that most design teams like to do every now and then.

link. I like the editor simpl display which is written by Frank
Gennari.
