Hi - my current TV setup goes like this: coaxial cable from cable company
attaches to VCR - VCR attached to TV. All channel changing is done through
VCR and not TV. Some channels (that are payed for) are really staticy - and
often have so much background noise that they are unwatchable. Other
channels are crystal clear. Though the TV was top of the line when it was
purchased - it now is about 15 years old. The VCR is fairly new - but is of
more average quality. So - do you think my equipment is at fault? If so -
which part? If you don't - what can I tell the cable company to get them to
fix it? Thanks!

Michael:
It sounds like the VCR "tuner" might be at fault. Eliminate the VCR from
the system and try tuning in the channels with your television tuner and/or
another VCR tuner...... if those same channels are now clear then you have
confirmed that it is indeed the fault of the original VCR, however, if the
channels are still "staticy" then the problem may be with your cable
service.... then you should call for the cable company to come to your
home.

Knowing which channels (or groups of channels) are good/bad
may be useful in speculating on the problem.
