vhdl synthesis

Hi
Are there any sources (books or websites) that well explained how
vhdl constructs are mapped to hardware? For example, latch inferring,
arithmetic operator mapping, and it would be better if some more
complicted examples are shown instead of some simple ones like if..
else.. or case statements.
