hi all,
I am new to this forum (this is my first post) , I am even new to IC
design....I want to know what are the different versions of cadence
IC design tols and the differences among them...
I knew there is IC5.0.33 and IC5.1.41.......is that all.....I wish you
can tell me about them...and the latest of them all...
Regards,
Ahmad

There are

IC5032, IC5033, IC5141, on native Cadence Database (CDBA)
ICOA5033, ICOA5141, on OpenAccess 2.0 Database (OA)
ICOA5241, on OpenAccess 2.2 Database (OA)

If you have some of them installed you'll find a 'Whats New'
in the right corner of nearly ever tool under the 'Help' menu,
this is probably the easiest way to get this kind of information.
Also there are the so called 'Release Notes' accessible through
'cdsdoc' the Cadence online documentation or under
<install_dir>/doc/cicnew/cicnew.pdf

You can find the 'Release Notes' also on SourceLink
http://sourcelink.cadence.com

Not sure if this has been answered before in this forum - When will
Cadence stop releasing CDBA products and just only support OA
databases? e.g will Cadence release a CDBA version of the IC5241 or
will customers eventually be forced to totally move to the OA database.

My apologies if this a horse that has been beaten to death before....

IC5141 is the last CDB release. It is planned to be supported until 2008
(I believe) - the info is on sourcelink.

So 5.2.51 (out already) and 6.1 (due mid 2006) will be OA only.

No, that's not all but it's a good start! :)

As one who has run a team of people who built mixed-signal designs,
design kits, and complete flows, I can say one of the best ways to get
a feel for the IC design tool suite is to ask your local sales team for
one of the IC design workshops.

These day-long sessions walk the user through the complete task using
all the tools necessary for that task.

For example, in the top-level mixed-design simulation flow, the tools
used are IC5141, IUS455, and Assura 3.1.4. Likewise, in the
analog-driven-physical implementation flow, the tools used are IC5141,
SOCE 4.2, ICC11241, and Assura 3.1.4. For the block creation with
re-use flow, the tools are IC5141, MMSIM 6.0, Assura 3.1.4, VSDE 4.1,
NEOCKT 3.2, and NEOCELL 3.4.

Many other flows and tools exist, e.g., RF, low-power digital, etc.,
but this should at least give an idea of the wealth of capabilities to
choose from.

Good luck - If there's not a book already out there discussion the
entire IC design flow, let's write it all together!
