hello,
i have a protek a802 (analogue multimeter) and need to use it to test a
computer power supply unit (i.e. the power connectors to the
motherboard; the voltage(s) at the connector to the hd, etc... (these
are dc and max at +/- 12 volts))
no user's manual
need to know which positive (red -- on meter's right side) port to use
as well as the dial setting(s)
(for voltages around +/-12)
thank you

Tanya:
Radio Shack sells a book named "Using Your Meter" .... #62-2039 @ $6.99
...... the information contained in the pages of this book should be useful
to you.
No offense intended, but if you have these kinds of questions about how to
use a simple analog multimeter, how on earth are you expecting to interpret
the voltage readings and test or troubleshoot and repair the power supply? ?
Maybe you could solicit some hands on help and instruction from a local tech
or computer hobbyist. --
Best Regards,

Tanya, you have taken the first right step: If you don't know, ask.

Once you get your readings, ask us. That's what usenet groups are for!

Good luck,

Tanya,
The meter switch (dial) should have a 20 dc volt setting. There are a range
of switch settings that should be labelled DC; select the 20 (or whatever
setting is higher than 12) setting.

The two red ports: one should say Amps (or have a large "A" near it); the
other should be labelled Volts and Ohms (or something similar). The one
labelled Volts (or with a large "V") is where you want to plug in your red
test lead.

If you have any other questions, just ask us.

Good luck,
