use different layout view and still maintain XL connectivity

I was wondering if you can selectively associate different layout
views for different symbol instances. The reason being there can be a
symbol, schematic, layout, and layout2 views for a cell. The layout
view is used for one project, and the layout2 is used for a different
project.

Any insights or thoughts appreciated.

Uh, I thought this was possible whenever you wanted to associate VXL
for the first time between source & layout?

I had a layout design before which I generated from schematic. Later
on, I had some ECOs & created a layout2 cellview. When I wanted to use
VXL with layout2, after opening layout2, I invoked VXL. It asked which
cellview to associate it with, which I specified the schematic of the
same cell.

Or maybe halfway during the layout design in VXL, I want to change to
using schematic2 instead. I can select 'Update' > 'Source...' from the
'Connectivity' tab & switch the schematic correspondance.

Somehow I think I'm missing the point here.

Yes you can.

Put a property on to the symbol with the name: lxStopList
It's a string looking like this: "layout2 layout"
At generation, VXL is looking from the left side into this list
trying to use layout2 for placement, if not available it goes to the
next in the list. There is also "lxUseCell" if you want to point to
a different lib.

In 6.1 there is a great new tool called CPH (Configure Physical
Hierarchy). It's like a hierarchy editor for layout, where you can
bind the desired views to the cells.
