hi i just wanted to ask if anyone knows much about simulators. Im
currently in my final year at university studying computer science. I
am doing a project called 'modelling ip traffic in a 3G mobile
network' and im strugggling with making a simulator. So basically what
im trying to achieve is to create a simulator that anaylses the
traffic over the 3G network. Im struggling with making the actaul
simulator, im not sure what types of methods i should be using, i will
be programming in java.Does anyone have any suggestions about what i
should be doing, and i also wanted to know if there are any existing
simulators so i can experiment with them to see the types of tools/
features that have been used.

i would really appreciate it if someone could possibly help me out.

Quite a few people know really rather a lot about them.

The matchless bibliographic synergy of Google and a human
brain took approximately thirty seconds to find this:

http://isi.edu/nsnam/ns/

which should keep you busy for quite a while before you
need to do any real work :)

BTW, I suspect you came here because a Google search for
"simulator" sent you. A Verilog simulator is a fascinating
and powerful tool, but it is not what you need. I suspect
you would be better off finding out about "network traffic
simulation" or somesuch.

Doesn't it just piss you off when you reply to someone's
URGENT REQUEST FOR HELPZ and then five days later they
still haven't even bothered to say whether the help was
any use?

Maybe the old acting rule about "never work with
animals or students" was about right...

Hi Jonathan,
perhaps you should have used a Mike Treseler style link:

http://letmegooglethatforyou.com/?q=network+simulation+software

It's fun yet vaguely sarcastic (I hasten to add this is definitely a
personal opinion!)

P.S. In case anyone is wondering, Jonathan's working at home today,
otherwise I could just talk to him across the office...

Perhaps the sense of urgency is related to a fear of reading.

Just over the "vaguely" line, I think,
but "URGENT" posters seem to be immune to sarcasm anyway.

Some of this may be my fault. I responded to his post on the
Xilinx forums and suggested that he try here. No reply there
either but my reply was marked as a "solution" which if the
forum is designed correctly should only work if the thread
originator clicks it...

It does help however when help is urgently needed to capitalize
your subject line and leave out any trace of the actual subject :)
