Unstable playback with Sony TR65 Handicam

I have started getting unstable playback from this Handicam, bought in
1994. Up until a few months ago, no problems. Now, vertical wavering
in the picture all the time, not just in recent recordings, but also
from tapes recorded several years ago with no previous problem. Seems
to be a tracking malfunction, but of course, no user tracking controls
on this camera. Anyone else had this problem and/or solution?

Tape guides, slant post or bad SMD caps.

Might be something as simple as dirty video heads\tape path. (don't use a
cleaning tape)

Many thanks for your reply to my posting in sci.electronics.repair. I
have no technical knowledge whatsoever, but it sounds like this is a
case for a qualified service centre. Are these repairable items?

It is "repairable".
