Fears of future threats to food security if more extreme heat caused by climate crisis hits production

Severe drought affecting Europe continues to worsen with 45% of the territory exposed to warning levels and 13% under alert

Since the surrounding oceans are dead and dying from overheating and acidity, they won\'t be able to turn to them for sustenance either.

etc etc etc...

This is always how it starts. By the time people realize they have a serious problem, it\'s too massive and too late.

As we learned in lesson 13, Coronary Mass Ejections (CMEs) are large clouds of gas developed from the Sun\'s corona which eventually lead to powerful eruptions and the release of plasma from the Sun\'s magnetic field 1. Explosive processes in the Sun, such as coronary mass ejections and sudden radiation bursts - called \'flares\' - can cause turbulence and transform the uniformly flowing solar wind into a storm. With a flare, the intensity of \'x-rays\' often increases by more than a thousand times. Those are high-energy protons and electrons.

I disagree. I\'m not intent on changing the world -- but, if I can change
(have an impact on) the 6 ft around me, then that\'s a start. Certainly
more than the deniers are doing!

The solution won\'t come from old-folks; they are too set in their ways
and too eager to maintain their level of comfort. They also tend to
be relative islands, socially -- with very little power to impact
their peers.

OTOH, younger people are more social/cliquish. And, have more of a stake in
the outcome. If motivated, they may end up changing policy and *imposing*
it on the old folks -- pushing for higher taxes on MILES DRIVEN, regardless of
technology; dropping out of the consumer culture (they are already avoiding
home ownership, delaying marriage/child bearing, etc.) or forcing it to adapt
to *their* desires... old folks have already *done* their consuming!

problem is media is mostly funded by big corporate polluters, so they have
to tow the line if they expect to stay in business. It\'s time to use the
media to scare the hell out of the public. Let them know in no uncertain
terms the party is over and it\'s time to get serious. Government can flood
the media with PSA\'s to that effect.

You\'re assuming gummit is benevolent and not beholding to the same interests
that you claim drive the media. Anything gummit related/initiated (in the US)
is always a watered down compromise; too many special interests that have
to be accommodated (look at the \"food pyramid\"; really? that\'s the \"best
science\"??)

The rest of what needs to be done will
take care of itself. Obstructionists like Manchin and Sinema types will be

The good news is everyone dies. So, all the scheming amounts to naught.

But, your descendants\' view of you is unalterable (by you) once you\'re

Since the surrounding oceans are dead and dying from overheating and acidity, they won\'t be able to turn to them for sustenance either.

This is always how it starts. By the time people realize they have a serious problem, it\'s too massive and too late.

CME\'s only affect the aurora at high latitudes. It takes a really hefty
one for there to be one visible from my UK latitude of 53 N. There was
an aurora prediction for last Saturday but it came to nothing.

That is far too late to play any part in the insanely hot conditions
which were largely caused by a weather system becoming trapped in such a
way as to put hot saharan air on top of the UK for a couple of days.

We had exactly the right combination of thin high cloud to let 90% of
the sunlight in and stop 80% of thermal long wave radiation escaping so
that it got hotter with each successive day culminating in the previous
national record temperatures being broken over a wide area in the UK. It
even went cloudy at a lower level after dusk trapping more heat in but
quickly burned off again shortly after sunrise.

I have never seen anything like it - large established trees have had
their leaves fried to a crisp on the sun facing side and many have
dropped them still green and fruit tress also dropped immature fruit.

Combining had to stop at lunchtime because the grain was too hot and dry
to handle with the machinery. Roads also melted in the afternoons.
Trains ground to a standstill as the tracks buckled. They shut the East
Coast mainline completely on the hottest day.

The drought is beginning to bite in London and the SE now.

Pear trees are absolutely loving this weather. Never seen even half this many fruit.

I have a Japanese (nashi) pear tree which usually struggles a bit in
North Yorkshire but this year it is doing nicely. Last year it did OK
despite a late frost which annihilated the apple blossom. We got no more
than a dozen apples from a tree which normally yields 400kg.

That has been dropping fruit in the drought but still has plenty on it.
