Two identical motors turning the same arbor

does anyone know if
1. this would work?
2. this exists?
3. there are any pictures, websites?
4. there are practical applications?
5. there are companies that build them?

yes they exist.
what happens normally is if you have both
lets say DC shunt motors connected and using
an external tach ref from the shaft you can
drive both almost equally with the same drive.
its possible that one motor may tend to lead//
then you have the use of Resistor bars where you can feed the
armature feed to the center and then using a an inline amp
meter adjust one of the other outer feeds to balance the amps under
a load.
now this of course is working with large motors.
in most cases if 2 motors are identical then they should be
close enough to be connected together from the same source..
most of the time what happens they both well help with the load being
driven, one may work alittle more than the other and that would be due
to wear on bearings etc..

one more thing to add.
this only applies to direct linkage type motors
when i say that i mean like DC Shunts, Ac syncrise, etc..
the types that do not have slip clutches like a Eddy current type
in the case of an Eddy current type you would have to have 2 separate
drives controlling the clutches and Current monitoring from both
motors, one motor would be the master and the other slave. this way
you can insure that both motors are doing there equal share of the load.

Thank you Jamie,
Anyone else want to try questions 3,4, and/or 5? I've
spent alot of time looking online with no luck. I'd like to see a
picture or get in touch with a company that would make one. Right now
AC or DC doesn't matter. TIA, Mike
