I am now receiving most channels converted to 1080
on my Comcast HD box setup. i think they still have not converted the high channel set to digital.
The problem that just occured, is all digital channels are limited in width.
The big problem is channels set to digital widescreen format. On my
32 inch LCD the screen has 4 inches of blank on top and bottom and
at least that on seach side. I have to strain my eys now, like looking at a 24 inch TV set.
The also add channel advertising in the BLANK space. It pisses me off.
Is there a fix??

If the TV has the capability to change the aspect ration or zoom try
that. Same deal here in Time Warner-land. My TV has two zoom levels
to make a 1.85:1 aspect ration fill the screen.

Mine does not have a zoom, and the Comcast controller does not have a zoom either
as far as I can tell.

I have to renew my Comcast bundle, and I will sure tell my story.

Yes. *Study* the manuals for both the TV and the cable STB. There are quite
a few aspect ratio settings. It appears that some of these are not set
correctly. Black bars on the sides and top/bottom of the screen denotes
program material that originally was in 16:9 has been converted to 4:3,
but is being displayed on a 16:9 screen. The "channel advertising" on the
*vertical* (side) black bars is done on a few channels showing 4:3 programming
but transmitting at 16:9. 1080 or 720 resolution has nothing to do with it.

Only that the 1080 is whats being reported by the info on the TV.
Gladly, the super small screen only occurs on few channels. Most at least fill
top to bottom.

Whether it's 1080 or 720 resolution is irrelevant and not related to your
aspect ratio woes.
