JVC 13" (C-13WL5) 1994.There is a big black rectangle that occupies
80% of
the screeen. This rectangle is centered in relation to the center of
the screen.
I can see a normal picture (20%) all around this big
rectangle.Tapping on top the TV restores a normal picture for a few
seconds.Where should I resolder ??

Many thanks for any tips.

Jacques

He has text mode closed captioning turned on.
The reason it goes away is probably due to a secondary failure in the set.
As to answering his question, it is the bad solder connections in the tv
set.

There's likely a cold solder joint that's causing captioning to malfunction.
You've got an easy fix here, remove the cover and gently poke at the board
with an insulated stick while the TV is running, find the ticklish spot and
resolder joints in the area. If you don't wish to do this then take it to a
shop.
