TV Not Working

I have a Toshiba 43" TV, model 43A10.

I'd like to get an opinion on what's wrong with my TV before bringing
it into the shop.

I've had my TV working with my DishNetwork for 15 months now, and all
of a sudden it's not displaying anymore. My Dishnetwork cable feed
plugs into the Antenna-1 coax connector in the back of the TV.

Also, my VCR is connected into the Video-1 on the TV. My DVD player is
plugged into the ColorStream connector on the TV. My laptop s-video
out plugs into the Video-3 TV connector.

On my TV remote, I can click on the TV/Video button and cycle through
1) TV, 2) Video-1, 3) Video-2, 4) Video-3, and 5)ColorStream. Despite
the Dishnetwork not displaying anymore, I can go to Video-1 to see my
VCR output, Video-3 to see my Laptop, and ColorStream to see my DVD
movies. That all works BUT my Dishnetwork on my Video-1 connection.

Since then, I have connected the Dishnetwork cable into a different
13" TV and viewed it without any problems. My Dishnetwork on my other
TVs in the other parts of the house all have worked and never failed
during the time when my Toshiba has been experiencing problems.

On the Toshiba setup menu, I have found provisions to select
Antenna-1/Antenna-2 and Cable/TV. It's been working at whatever
setting for all this time but I still went ahead and tried all four
settings, along with the coax cable connected to the appropriate
connector on the back of the TV. But to no avail, the Dishnetwork is
still not working.

The one thing that I can add to this is that I have been using my
laptop with the svideo connected to Video-3 just recently. I've used
this for several sessions with no problems whatsoever, even watching
some Dishnetwork afterwards.

But now the Dishnetork on the Toshiba no longer displays. What's wrong
with my TV?

Have you tried other devices with the video inputs that originally used the
DishNet receiver?

Another possibility could be the DishNet receiver itself.

This might not be related, but quite a few digital cable boxes are notorious
for developing some quirky issues with sound and video that would make someone
think that the problem was with the TV. - Reinhart

I'm thinking that my problem is the tuner. The tuner blew out or
something. I was just talking to a coworker and he mentioned that his
tuner died on his TV and the repair guy told him that he could just
use the tuner on the VCR.

So when the coworker told me this, that explains why I saw the
Dishnetwork when I switched to Video-1 for a few seconds, but later on
when I went back to the VCR, I couldn't see it, because the TV/VCR
setting on the VCR was probably set back to VCR.

No, the Dishnetwork receiver is fine. The cable feed plugs into my
13inch TV and it works perfectly.

Does anybody have an easy reference to the tuner part number for the
Toshia 43A10? And the appropriate website that would sell this part?

I doubt it's the tuner, you said video 1 doesn't work either. It's probably
just a solder joint somewhere on the board, maybe right at the jack. Just
take it to a shop unless you have repair experience.
 
Something is a little confused in the OP. He states he has the sat receiver
connected to the coax connector, but later says he can't access it from
'video 1.' Perhaps that was a typo, because he also says his VCR is
connected to Video 1, and it's working.

If you leave out the part where he refers to accessing the sat on Video 1,
then it makes perfect sense that the tuner is the problem, especially since
he also says later that he can no longer access on-air channels with it.

If the set's out of warranty, I think I'd get a video switcher of some
sort...perhaps a nice a/v audio receiver with video switching (That's how I
do my home theater setup; but it's not nearly as extensive as his...I've
only got two video ins/outs on it.). In the meantime, he's reduced to
swapping cables, removing one device temporarily; or daisy-chaining the sat
output through the VCR, and selecting it through the line input on the
VCR...kludges all, but do-able.

I have had Comcast digital cable TV service for some time. However,
lately the digital cable converter has been shutting itself off at
random--sometimes when I am watching a program.(Box works very well
when it is working.) Have had Comcast technicians to my home several
times; each time they replaced the box, but the problem persists. (One
tech told me part of the trouble may be on the lines outside my
apartment; this came to light after I reported an interference problem
on some low-band channels, notably 3 and 4.) This leads me to believe
that these converters, made by Motorola, have some quirks of their own
(I've heard other people complain of the same problem with the box
shutting down unexpectedly, etc., so it wouldn't surprise me if this
is a design flaw with the unit itself.)

Thanks for the responses here guys.

Jak, you are right. I did paint the picture a little bit confusing in
the original post regarding how the VCR is connected in the original
post.

The satelite feed does go into the VCR. And the outbound VCR coax
cable is connected to the Antenna-1 on the TV. At the same time, I do
have RCA composite cables going out of the VCR and into the Video-1 of
the TV. So both things that I mentioned in the original post was true.
My apologies for the confusion.

After I got home today, I was able to try the VCR "as the tuner" set
to channel 3, and was successful seeing my Dishnetwork on Video-1!
(After seeing this, I disconnected the coax into the TV, to confirm it
was the RCA cables that was providing the signal.) However, this is so
cumbersome of a solution. I'm ok with it actually, but I'm sure it'll
confuse the wife. :)

I'd like to get it working with the tuner via the Antenna-1/TV option
again.

So do you guys think it's the tuner? If you were to guess the repair
cost on something like this, for the part, for the labor, what do you
think it'd be?
