TV noise hum/buzz

Hi,

We own a 13 year old thirty-something inch GE TV. For the past year,
it has been making a strange humm/static/buzz noise. It's not coming
from the speakers as I have connected external speakers to the TV. The
sound is also present when the sound on the TV and remote are turned
down all the way to mute.
I don't know if this info matters, but the TV is connected to a cable
box and a video game machine.

If it's worth the expense of fixing we will. Any ideas on what could
be causing this problem? Any opinions on whether or not this is worth
fixing? Or, should we just go out and buy that flatscreen I've been
wanting? :)

Thanks in advance,

Ashley

Probably a transformer or the deflection coils around the neck of the
picture tube.

Greetings,

Al
