TV blows fuse when plugged in

A buddy of mine contacted me about his RCA Model: F32672SB with a CTC
187CL3. He said it died and when he checked the chassis board he found the
fuse blown. He replaced it with the same value fuse and when he just plugs
it in it blows the fuse before he can even turn it on. I had him check for
any obvious direct shorts or visibly damaged components. He could not find
anything that looked damaged or loose. He even sent me photo's of the
chassis. I can't find any similar problems for this model in any of my
databases.
Has anyone ever had to fix this on a CTC???

It is time to take the set to a service center for a proper estimate.
This type of fault can get complex to find, unless properly trained,
experienced, and have the test gear and service manuals.

It may be anything or a combination of failed components in the scan
sections, and or the power supply. These types of faults are rarely
visible by eye. Proper testing and analysis will allow the tech to
determine the cause of the fault, and then be able to service it.

Thanks Jerry, I suggested that to him but wanted to check and make sure we
weren't missing something obvious. I don't have the time to work on it and
he doesn't have the training. So now I have reason enough to convice him.

Looks likes the power supply has a short. I guess it's a switched mode power
supply. Parts that fail may be the rectifier, the capacitors and - most
likely - the switching transistor. (A FET most of the time these days.) But
if he does not have the skills to find the cause of these problem I doubt he
can repair it succesfully.

The STK730 IC is shorted. May be just the IC or the 130V supply diode shorted
too.

As you should hopefully "obviously" know shorted or bad components usually
do not "look damaged or loose". It is time to have a qualified technician
actually do some real troubleshooting and testing with the proper test
equipment, repair experience and electronics knowledge. Take it to a
repair shop.

remove the degausing coil plug....... fit new fuse..... if fuse does not
blow then you need to replace the posistor in the degausing circuit...
common fault.

This set does not have a Posistor just a Thermistor.
Check for S/C regulator and associated components
S/C HOT bad IHVT S/C diode in power section etc etc.
