Please forgive my ignorance on this matter but I want to find out from the
knowledgeable ones out there. Anyhow: IS a DTC143EK the same as a DTC143Z or
any other DTC143_ _?? I am looking for a few DTC 143EK or equivalent if
anyone can help? Thanks in advance

I don't know what that particular part is, but from the suffixes on
other parts, I would say that it could be in an entirely different
package, and of course wouldn't fit into the same socket or board or
whatever.

I'm guessing the "DT" stands for Digital Transistor (ie one with
integrated resistors) and the next character (either A or C ???)
denotes whether it is PNP or NPN (as in 2SA or 2SC).

Yeah, you have a good point. I looked up DTC143 in my old hardcopy of
the NTE xref, and it skips from 124 to 144. But like you said, the
DTC144 with different letters has a built-in resistor. It crosses to a
NTE2359. But that's not a 143!

Try http://www.nteinc.com online and see if it's more current and
up-to-date.
