Toshiba 32A50 problem

I've just recently been having a weird problem with my Toshiba 32A50
TV. The TV will suddenly make this "snap" or "zap" sound and the
display changes momentarily from TV show to either a blank screen or a
band of colours across the top 1/3 of the picture tube. Then the
screen returns to normal.

This happens consistenly on a daily basis, maybe once or twice per
day.

Does anyone have any ideas what this might be?

Thanks.

There are "Spark Gaps" connected to the pins of the CRT (Picture tube). If
the voltage exceeds a certain level, it will arc across these gaps. It is a
type of voltage regulator. It is not uncommon for it to occasionally fire,
however if it is doing it as often as you say there may be a problem. You
should contact Toshiba if the set is still in warranty. If not, it might be
a good idea to contact a GOOD, reputable service center. Early diagnosis
such as this could save you money!

Is it possible that there is something faulty in the wiring of my
house, instead of it being an issue with the TV itself? I ask this
because there is a light switch in my kitchen (the room beside the TV)
that when flipped will sometimes turn off my satellite receiver for a
second (of if its not turning off completely it must be disrupting the
signal), then it will turn back on.
