Timing Belt for JVC HR-D980

Please help! I just replaced the drive and timing belts on my 12 year
old JVC HR-D980 VCR. The mechanism and the electronics seem to work
just fine. BUT I cannot get the timing signals synchronized so I only
get distorted audio and video!

Any ideas what I can do to remedy this or where I can obtain a good
condition service manual?

Are the tape guides fully engaged? Are they properly aligned? Checked or
replaced the 3.3uF capacitor on the drum motor board?
