I did something amazingly stupid last week. I left my nokia 5210
mobile charging in a thunderstorm and it will no longer charge. I
have tested both the battery and charger on another phone and they
both work. Also my phone will still work when the battery is charged.
I am not really confident about opening the back of the phone.

I wondered if anyone knows if I can charge the battery directly from
the charge.

Many thanks!

The charge inverter, or regulator in the phone is damaged, or the micro fuse
in the phone is opened. If the fuse is opened, there may be some damage as
well. If you are equipped to work on the cell phones, you can open the phone
and check this out.

Normally when there is a complex defect on these boards, the service centre
will change the complete board. They then do a re-phasing alignment of the
board, and re-initialize it. Almost all the troubleshooting, set-ups, and
alignments are done by software in these phones.

Take care that when opening the phone, some of these models are disabled.
The service centre has the system and to reinitialize the phone for jig
testing, and operation.

A regulator on the phone may be damaged or a microfuse may be open.
Without special test equipment, you can't do much repair on a cell phone - some
disable themselves when opened. Repair centers have special repair techniques.

I have several 5120 boards, plus two complete phones in good shape. Email
if you want one, cheap. Sanyo makes an external charger which has a cradle
for the phone, plus a slot for the bare battery.
