Hi all.. I'm in my second year of a BengTech (Electronics). I'm enjoying
the course, and I enjoy electronics. I have in the past written dumb
questions in this NG and gotten abuse.

So I put the following questions to all, rather then getting involved in
the "9V 1A" thread.

Is the industry, that I'm training to be a part of, so stressful?
Does it create such anger?
Should I give up now and not bother?

I think that the use of this NS, by some, is an abuse of the knowledge
they have. So why reply so negatively in the first place.

The OP (9V 1A) obviously did not form his question correctly, or does not
yet have enough knowledge to work it out for him self. But why do some
people (fred) spend so much time trying to kill any interest in the
subject that he may have.

Well, the hours can be long sometimes if you get into
the critical path on development projects. This is
much more likely when you have a design job.

No. What you see here is not typical of the working
environment in any way, shape or form. People such
as the one(s) producing the caustic garbage here would
not last a day in an environment where people have to
work together to get jobs done that are larger than any
single individual can handle. I don't know the cause of
what you see, but electronic knowledge is not it.

I can assure you, after 31 years spent in engineering
environments with many other people, that most of
them are as normal as your neighbor (probably) is.

Well, if you are ready to accept unsubstantiated slander
and clearly deranged outbursts as reflecting upon your
own character, you might want to consider whether
you can deal with legitimate criticism. Unless you are
ten times brighter than any engineers I have known,
you will make some mistakes and others will let you
know about it if you don't find them yourself. That
said, those others are usually decent people who act
nothing like some of the sick people you see here..

Not really. It's usually fun, but parts can be tedious. Sometimes
there is pressure to get things done/working, but it's a personal
thing as to whether that really bothers you.

you can block all abusive people. Simply highlight the abusive messege,
then go to the title
menus "Message", scroll down the list and select "Block Sender." Then, you

filters it out. The NG will still have all the crap, but at least you don't
have to see it.

This group is a valuable source of information for my everyday job and I
couldn't do without it. Some very high level brains are on tap - I am not
in their league and often don't know their speciality. I try to pose my
questions in an interesting way, so as to engage the clever ones, and not be
taken as a fool.

I am the only engineer at my workplace and it gets lonely in the technical
sense and short of inspiration. On the newsgroup, I sometimes I post and
get that spark of contact with another thoughtful person, and I enjoy it.

The group lets me know what is happening without scanning all the
manufacturers websites. Sometimes there is a link to an app note or
something and it is priceless.

I am offended by all sorts of people for all sorts of reasons, but I never
express that - I just don't post a reply. Once you tell someone he is out
of order, you can get to be a target and the newsgroup is spoiled for you.
The group is cross-cultural, and some cultures have assumptions I don't
agree with. You will soon notice when a thread is lost and when it is
paydirt.

Because of this group I have got happy stuff in my head and some inspiration
on Monday morning. If I get stuck, I can get help.

I love doing electronics, because it is real science - and my work is tested
against reality. I have to persuade people of what is achievable and I
evaluate risk and commit to risk. It is a wild ride when you look at it
like that. The newsgroup can give a sense of that romance.
