Thermal Cameras

Does anyone here have any experience with thermal cameras?
There are 3 that I have to look after, and currently two of them have a
problem.....
The board damage I can probably fix, but what I wanted to know is, on the
front of the housing there is a piece of plastic... Its not actually on the
lense of the camera, but it is the part of the housing where the thermal
camera looks out....
Would this material be something special?? Anyone know what it is???
It seems that these cameras attract birds and they peck away at the lense
till its all gone :)
People in the past have put some of of bird scare tape around the camera but
it doesn't appear to have worked.

Any help appreciated....
While I'm here....
Anyone know where to purchase thermal/night vision cameras??
The current ones have a range of about 750 metres... so I need something as
good as or better than that....
So far I've been quoted $80-$250K.... But I think the current ones installed
are only worth US$12K unfortunately they are obsolete.... so I'm frantically
trying to find a better price than $80K... thats a way too much to cover in
a contract :)
Apparently these cameras cost $15K to get fixed in the past, unfortunately I
don't know where to get them fixed.

Thanks heaps!

Its for looking out for people along the water (next to the run ways) at
the airport :) So its kinda critical to get these things working :)

Cripes mate $100k- what ARE you looking out for ?! Given that sort of
($)$$$$$ I'd say it must be Mr.Big himself. It certainly can't just be
penguins ! In fact for that sum I'd almost offer to pop over from NZ
to do the nightwatch personally ...
Many Aus. electronics/gun/sporting outlets stock night vison scopes
etc ( often originally designed for the Russian military )- & for a
sub A$1000 price too. Have you checked the likes of US firm
www.nightvisionweb.com ? SUGGEST A GOOGLE !

There are a lot of people reading (and sometimes posting) to
this NG who have a wealth of experience and knowledge,
must amount to thousands of man years and they regularly
share that knowledge with others.

** The ingratiating premise.

Unfortunately all you ever seem to post are short put-downs.

aus.electronics must be one of the most catholic sources
of information in Oz/NZ

** Now he butters up of the audience.

and it's quite reasonable for a professional to ask this sort of question
here.

** Finally the great fallacy.

Mike Harding

** The usual perpetrator.

I don't know about the others but you'd better watch

If it's black (or very dark), then it's probably a filter which blocks out
the visible light spectrum. Most likely it's transmission of NIR and IR
wavelengths is fairly good.

Then again, it may just be some kind of protection for the camera. You'd
want your US$12,000 camera investment to be working for a few years to
come...

Install an electronic bird 'scarecrow' to deter them. Talk to farmers.

Well you can try :) but there are some motion detectors around the place
too :) So you might be able to get closer hehe but I'll leave it at that :)

does that mean we can now sneak in to the runways at night because the
cameras aren't working? ;)
