The U.S. #Treasury Department said on May 1 that the U.S. could run out of #money by June 1. If no action is taken by #Congress to raise the #debt limit, the U.S. government would be unable to pay its bills at that time. What could that mean for the U.S. and global economies?

Dire headlines, mostly.

Don\'t want to raise the debt limit? OK, we\'ll look back through your
congressional record (for every rep who doesn\'t want to raise the limit)
and subtract YOUR votes from all vote tallies where you voted to increase
spending -- regardless of the nature of the bill. Any totals that NOW
fall below what would be required to pass the legislation are now null
and void.

No exceptions.

[Of course, we\'ll gladly tell your constituents what your EFFECTIVE vote
was on those bills]

You\'ll just have to convince your fellow legislators to reissue that
legislation afterwards...

\"Yessiree... I shore wanna buy this car! Wait, you actually want me to
PAY for it?\"

How can a politician pretend to save the day without elevating a kerfuffle to the status of crisis in the perception of the gullible.

I\'m so impressed with all the sincerity on display- NOT. People make whole careers, or what they call careers, out of display of faux sincerity.

What would you say if a politician simply emptied your bank account? You would scream BLOODY MURDER and DEMAND he/she be prosecuted. Plus you would want your account restored to its original value, understandably. Well, this is what the politicians are doing to us ALL THE TIME by printing money and making our bank accounts worth less than they were last year. Yet, many say \"Hooray - we did not default and Congress did its job!\"

They not only emptied your account, but incurred liens on it for 10x the original amount.

You\'d have to be mad to leave you money in a bank account - or at least a bank account that didn\'t pay enough interest to cover inflation.

If you aren\'t using your money you should invest it in a company that pays you dividends, and whose share appreciate faster than inflation devalues them.

Inflation is a tax on lazy people who don\'t invest. Sewage Sweeper is too dumb to realise this.

Thomas Piketty spells this out in more detail in

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capital_in_the_Twenty-First_Century

Sadly, this is inaccessible to dimwits like Sewage Sweeper.
