Extant vaccines are weakened whole virus type. mRNA type vaccines are still in development. Influenza mutation rate is quite high, and influenza vaccines don\'t exactly shine with effectiveness in the range 40-60%, that\'s 50% +/- 10%, on a good day. mRNA vaccine may improve that performance.
