What an unbelievable mess! They\'ll be working on this for years.

\"Fires rarely incinerate human bones completely, but under the temperatures that the Maui fires generated, bones will become very fragile. They look like black chalk, and are hard to distinguish from surrounding debris like concrete and charred drywall.\"

They\'re thinking quite a few people seeking refuge in the water drowned and were swept away.

Nothing that Sewage Sweeper can understand. Most people can work out that a hotter and drier summer leads to drier and more inflammable grass, but Sewage Sweeper knows what he wants to know and reality doesn\'t get a look in.

It has as much to do with it as Hurricane Dora. Uncharacteristically warm ocean temperatures made Dora. Warmer climate= warmer oceans. GW is also causing these unprecedented heat \'bubbles\' to form all over the place because of the way it messes with the jet stream.

Dora kicked up some very high wind gusts over Maui:

The forecast calls for NE winds 25-45 mph with localized gusts over 60 mph possible over portions of Maui, Molokaʻi, and Lānaʻi. Over Haleakalā, east winds of 45-55 mph, with gusts in excess of 66 mph possible.

Hey Bozo, exactly HOW MUCH hotter is it in Maui? Be specific.

What, specifically, is the question?

Maui is a volcanic island, temperature varies as a function of elevation, and
has averages and daily and seasonal fluctuations, and lots of different sites to consider. Water
temperature, soil temperature, air temperature... they\'re all variables,
not constants.

One doesn\'t expect specific answers to vague questions.

You guys just make this shit up and assume everybody buys it. Hurricane frequency and intensity hasn\'t changed for FORTY YEARS despite the purported global warming. Maui\'s winds were the result of it being between a pair of high-pressure and a low-pressure systems. One rotates CW and the other CCW, causing high winds between them. Any thunderstorm can produce gusty outflow winds in excess of 60 mph. The Lahaina fire was the DIRECT result of Hawaiian Electric NOT deenergizing their power lines when confronted with these winds and the land owners, mostly the state and school district, NOT practicing good land management and letting their properties get overgrown with very flammable non-native grasses.

A hard claim to document since both freqency and intensity vary a lot from year to year. Sewage Sweeper doesn\'t both document his claims, and feels free to make any kind of claim he feels like.

Hurricane need an area of sea surface at more that 26.3C down to 50 metres more than three degrees away for the equator to get them going. so global warming is going to give them more spawning ground. and informed opinion suggests that this is going to deliver roughly the same number of more intense hurricanes,

That\'s two causes for one \"direct result\". Sewage Sweeper can\'t do rational argument. There presumably wouldn\'t have been a fire if the landowners had cleared - presumably burned off - the dried grass.

Hawaiian Electric wasn\'t going to de-erginse their power lines before there was a fire - this kills the electric power that energises the water pumps that would be used to fight the fire so it has to done very selectively, if at all.

WTF does \"erginse\" mean, Bozo?

Do you mean the pumps that didn\'t have ANY WATER?
That\'s not got anything to do with Hawaiian Electric - they have to worry about the pumps that did have access to a reservior with some water in it.

The fuck it DOESN\'T! Why energize lines that have NO WATER to pump?

Sewage Sweeper at his lame-brained worst.

So, you have put yourself on the very lonely side of those who think having falling energized power poles is a good idea.
No, I\'ve put myself on the well-populated side of those who think that you should only cut power to poles that are about to fall.

No, Bozo, you are on the side of DESTROYING Lahaina because you are TOO STUPID to take reasonable precautions.

Global warming

...had absolutely NOTHING to do with the Lahaina fire.

It has as much to do with it as Hurricane Dora. Uncharacteristically warm ocean temperatures made Dora. Warmer climate= warmer oceans. GW is also causing these unprecedented heat \'bubbles\' to form all over the place because of the way it messes with the jet stream.

https://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/2023/08/12/hurricane-dora-makes-history-without-making-landfall/

This is called putting 2 and 2 together.

You guys just make this shit up and assume everybody buys it. Hurricane frequency and intensity hasn\'t changed for FORTY YEARS despite the purported global warming.
A hard claim to document since both frequency and intensity vary a lot from year to year. Sewage Sweeper doesn\'t bother to document his claims, and feels free to make any kind of claim he feels like.

\"Hard claim to document\"?

does suggest that there is a trend to more severe hurricanes. There aren\'t all that many of them so it probably isn\'t a statistically significant trend, You claim that \"the data\" - to which you don\'t provide any link - is VERY CLEAR is a bare-faced lie, which is you usual mode of argument.

No, that isn\'t remotely what I said. I explicitly that there is a visible trend to more sever hurricanes. I\'ve worked with sparse data, and I know that a visible trend isn\'t always a statistically significant trend. You don\'t seem to know the difference.

Hurricane need an area of sea surface at more that 26.3C down to 50 metres down more than three degrees away for the equator to get them going.. so global warming is going to give them more spawning ground. and informed opinion suggests that this is going to deliver roughly the same number of more intense hurricanes,

Spare us your technical mumbo-jumbo; you are just spewing meaningless crap.

You are too stupid to follow reasoned argument, and resent being asked to try.

No, Bozo, you have NO ARGUMENT, just mumbo-jumbo to look vaguely like an argument.

Specifying a critical ocean temperate for a specifoc volume of water in a specific place isn\'t any kind of mumbo -jumbo.

You may no longer be able to understand what the words mean, but that\'s just your senile dementia getting more florid.

Maui\'s winds were the result of it being between a pair of high-pressure and a low-pressure systems. One rotates CW and the other CCW, causing high winds between them.

As everybody knows.

snip

Any thunderstorm can produce gusty outflow winds in excess of 60 mph. The Lahaina fire was the DIRECT result of Hawaiian Electric NOT deenergizing their power lines when confronted with these winds and the land owners, mostly the state and school district, NOT practicing good land management and letting their properties get overgrown with very flammable non-native grasses.

That\'s two causes for one \"direct result\". Sewage Sweeper can\'t do rational argument. There presumably wouldn\'t have been a fire if the landowners had cleared - presumably burned off - the dried grass.

HALLELUJAH! You AGREE with me!!!!

Sewage Sweeper doesn\'t seem to be able to understand explicit disagreement. Labelling his demented ideas of what was meant as a \"translation\" would be comical if he didn\'t do it more less non-stop.

Hawaiian Electric wasn\'t going to de-energise their power lines before there was a fire - this kills the electric power that energises the water pumps that would be used to fight the fire so it has to done very selectively, if at all.

WTF does \"erginse\" mean, Bozo?

Lahaina got destroyed. Some of the people who lost their houses are trying to sue Hawaiian Electric, on the basis that they have got enough money to be worth suing. It\'s ambulance chaser logic.
There\'s very little that Hawaiian Electric might have done to mitigate the disaster. Getting rid of the long dry grass that fuelled the fire might have worked, but that isn\'t the electric company\'s responsibility.

Of course Hawaiian Electric could have de-energised their power lines, but because fire-fighters were using electric pumps to push water onto the fires they could get at, it wouldn\'t have been a popular move.,
