The historic deadlock in the U.S. House of Representatives coincided with the two-year mark of the Capitol riot on Jan. 6, 2021. What does it mean for the U.S. democracy? #GLOBALink

The record for votes to sit a speaker was set just before the Civil War.
https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/longest-elect-speaker-house/story?id=96183135
It was something like two months and 134 votes.

Meanwhile, if no laws can be passed, that\'s good.

It isn\'t, but John Larkin doesn\'t know any better.

Italy has had 68 \"governments\" in 76 years. Parlimentary systems can
take months to negotiate a ruling coalition, and it can be voted out
any time. No confidence, early elections, all that chaos.

Coalition governments debate questions in public, rather than making decisions on the basis of private horse-trading which is more susceptible to bribery,

Fat cats have harder time getting the government to make decisions that suit them, and lobbyists are less effective.

Italy isn\'t a good example of multi-party parlimentary democracy. Germany and the Netherlands do it much better. France mostly does too, but De Gaulle fancied being an executive president in the American fashion, and that can complicate the process.
