Testing dual speed cassette motor.

I have a Sony DXA-H2750 in the shop. The belts need replacing and I suspect
that the motor is intermittently noisy. I would like to be able to test the
motor with my bench supply but was wondering what would be the proper way to
hook it up to power.

The motor has four terminals and is a dc 12 volt motor. The terminals are
labeled "+ - A B"

If you feed 12 volts to it, and respect the polarity, it should work. But,
you will not be loading the motor to know if the torque is proper. You would
also have to have the proper set-up to measure the RPM of the motor.

The best and most conclusive test is in the machine AFTER you install new
belts, clean the pulleys and lubricate the mechanism.

Hi Daniel,

I totally agree with you about changing all the belts and lubing the mechanism.
I was just curious about how I should apply power to the motor considering most
dc motors just have a "+" and "-" terminal. Any idea on what input the "A" and
"B" terminals need?

Power is applied to the + and - terminals, while the A/B terminals
should be connected to a circuit consisting of a variable resistor
plus a fixed resistor in series, as follows.
