Temp Sensor

I have an audio video rack and each device will be running at
different times. I would like to place a sensor on/in each unit that
will turn on a fan when it reaches a certian temp. If I could have a
fan change speed as the unit gets hotter or cooler that would be cool.
LCD read outs would be a plus!

I have been toying with a similar project (but not quite as fancy.) For a
start I picked up a few 3" fans at www.mpja.com for about $4 each. They have
a built in thermistor for speed control. I have not had time to experiment
with them yet. I think I will still need a simple thermostat to switch them
completely off below a specific temp as I don't want them running all the
time. In my setup I have 4 fans in the entertainment cabinet. two behind
the TV and two in the audio part of the rack. My goal is just to remove the
heat from the rack and not separate cooling for each unit.

Are you looking for a temp measurement display for each unit? Are you trying
to display the fan's RPM or just current temp? Some fans do have a built in
tach.
