Tektronix 2445a Questions

Hi,

I just purchased a Tek 2445A o'scope
for home hobby use and have two questions.

1) How do I activate the diagnostics? I'm use to
modern digital scopes at work where everything
is menu driven and pretty obvious.

2) When operating any of the controls, all of the
front panel LEDs flicker in unison. Is this
common or indicative of a serious problem?
Could it be dried out power supply caps?
Other than being an annoyance, does it affect
scope operation in a any way?

I'm in the process of ordering operating and
service manuals.

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks much,
Joe

Yves,

That would be much appreciated.

Thank you!

A very nice instrument.

I recommend you download a Manual for free from
www.teknetelectronics.com . subscription is simple and free. Just
follow the instruction.

Then download a manual for a 2445A/B or 2465A/B -- all of these will
have the instructions you requested.

2) When operating any of the controls, all of the
front panel LEDs flicker in unison. Is this

Absolutely normal as slong as the flickering stops a few momets after
you relaese any knob/pot etc.

Could it be dried out power supply caps?
No

Info for ordering or what info do you mean? If the first is the case,
than : Download 'em.

Andreas,

Nice to find out I don't have a repair job ahead
of me regarding the LED flickering.

It seemed a little strange to me, and after reading an
old post where someone mentioned the flickering as
being abnormal and possibly caused by a power supply problem, I was
ready to start troubleshooting. I had already taken the cover off and
measured the supply voltages at J119 -
they were all spot on. My next step was going to be buying
an ESR meter.

It's apparent from reading the newsgroup that you know what
you are talking about. Thanks for taking the time to post and
saving me from trying to correct a non-existant problem.

Yves was kind enough to e-mail me a 2445 service manual.
TekNet doesn't have any 2445A manuals, but I'm assuming
the A is 95% identical. I understand the B version
is substantially different from the earlier two versions.

This scope is very pristine inside and out. I bought it
from a private owner who obviously didn't use it much.
I'm hoping the hybrids hold out but I paid less than $200,
so I'm not in too deep.

Thanks again,
Joe

Thanks for the link. I will join.
After playing with the 2445 vs. the 3000s at work, I am starting to see
your point.
