Teknika TK1325 TV channel number display always on!

Seems the big blackout of 2003 caused our trusty teknika to
permanently display the channel number. We're getting a tad tired of
focusing on tv shows in the single digit range :-( .

http://www.euras.com/ has a documented solution but the site is
password protected and seems to require some qualifications which I
don't have in order to get access.

Any words of wisdom would be appreciated. I'd hate to throw out a
perfectly reliable tv just because of this annoying issue.

BTW: The orignal remote died last year so we have a radioshack
2-IN-ONE pocket remote.

You will require the origional remote control to turn it off. Universal
remotes cannot get access to the extra commands. They only do the basic
functions.
