Dear Student,
This is with regard to TECHFEST, the annual technological festival of
the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay, India, one of the world's
premier engineering institutes.
From its inception in 1998 to being the largest of its kind in entire
Asia in 2003, Techfest has come a long way. In its seventh avatar, Techfest
2004 extends its horizons to reach out to students not only from India
but also across the world. The fest is scheduled for 24-26 Jan, 2004.
CLIFFHANGER, the International Rope-climbing Machine Design Contest,
aims at providing novel solutions to the problems faced by the rescue
workers who often have the daunting task of climbing tall buildings at the cost
of endangering their own lives. In this competition, you have to design a
machine that climbs a rope of given dimensions and burst the balloons
kept on the top of a structure.
There shall be a qualifying round where in you are required to submit a
video of your machine. AIRFARE will be provided to a few select entries
from outside India in the qualifying round. Prizes worth a whopping US
$2500 are there to be won including -
1st Prize : US $ 1000
2nd Prize : US $ 750
3rd Prize : US $ 500
The complete rules, details and deadlines of the competition are
available at the URL:

Apart from this machine design contest, TECHFEST spans a wide spectrum
of events which promise to enthrall you and stimulate your creativity and
ingenuity.
Competitions including Yantriki, India's largest robotics competition,
Last Straw, the structure building competition, Chemsplash, the
chemical engineering extravaganza, Contraption, Krazie Idea, Open Hardware,
Open Workshops- where the driving force is to "do while you learn".
Lecture Series- get an opportunity to meet your role models and find
out
what motivates and inspires them.
Technoholix- 3D Laser Shows, Aibo Robo Cup, Trebuchets et al
Students are encouraged to participate in any of the competitions,
workshops or simply visit TECHFEST, to see for themselves the latest
and
the best in technology. Please check out the website www.techfest.org
for
more information.
All the above mentioned competitions are also open for international
participation. However, there is no provision for providing airfare to
participants of these competitions. We are always ready for any other
help that we may provide.
Please feel free to clarify any queries that you may have.
Warm regards,
Techfest Team - 2004
