Teac AD-3 CD/Cassette Deck No Playback Audio

I have a AD-3 CD Auto reverse Cassette dubbing deck. I've not used the
cassette function for years. I went to play a tape, no audio. The CD
drive works fine.

I do not have a schematic and I'm not sure what levels are suppose to
come out of the tape heads or if they are biased. It appears that the
problem may be either the tape head or tape head preamp. A search for
the chip numbers came up empty except for the ubiquitous CD4066 switch
so I'm really working in the dark.

Any suggestions where to start?

Since you have no output, use a scope and trace along the signal paths until
you see no signal or just the background noise. This is your only option,
other than sending the unit to the Teac service rep for service. If it is a
very good machine and worth servicing, in your case it may be better to send
it out.
