In the absence of dimensional information, I'm guessing it is either a
triac or SCR made by TAG Semiconductors.

Otherwise, are you sure that 8730 isn't a YYWW (year/week) date code

If you are going to spew your question all over Usenet,
http://groups.google.com/groups/search?q=insubject:TAG8730&scoring=d&filter=0
this is the least obnoxious way:

First of all, my english is not perfect and I hope you'll understand me.

No, on the element is just written TAG8730 and casing number (220)

That element is used in motorcycle regulator/rectifier.
It is on alternating side ant there where two TAG8730 elements.

Except two TAG8730, in rectifier/regulator were

2 x BC337
GRAETZ
1N4740 (zener)
3 condensators
2 x 1N4007 (diod)
5 resistors
