switched outlet max rating

I want to plug the AC cord of my NAD 2400 power amp into the switched outlet
on my
Yamaha rxv992 a/v receiver so I can use the receiver remote to turn
everything on. The receiver tho, says 120 Watts max from the
switched outlet and the NAD power consumption is listed as 390 VA. So, my
question is: would that be a dumb thing to do? thanks

It likely isn't a good idea. That seems low for a switched plug,
doesn't it?

Yes.

Since the receiver's switch is rated for 120 watts, that means that
with 120V mains it can deliver 1 ampere into a load.

The power amp's looking for 390VA means that it'll require the switch
to carry 390VA/120V = 3.25A, over three times what the switch is rated
for.

What I did for my Adcom power amp and Hafler preamp was to plug a
small wall wart into the preamp. The wart turns on a 40 amp solid
state relay. The relay is mounted to a 7x9x1/8 inch aluminum plate as
a heat sink. The SSR also powers up the remainder of the toys. The
only catch is to put a bleed resistor on the control input of the SSR
so it turns off quickly. This contraption has been working properly
since 1991.

or a SSR with a 110Vac input
