Surface mount to DIP

My current PCB program has resolution to .05" and if I shell out the dough I
can upgrade to finer widths.

I don't really want to pay for the upgrade.
Here's a wierd question....

Has anyone ever seen any art on the web for surface mount to dip adapters?
(Like cad files or even a PDF files?)

That's what I wamt to do anyway.....create seperate boards for the fine
pitch surface mount stuff so I can solder them seperately and then put them
on my main board.

Thanks for any help.

Check out www.CapitolAdvanced.com - their "Surboards" are available through
Digikey.

Aries makes these, too. Also at Digikey.

Thanks but I don't want to buy (prices are outrageous for those
adapters)......I was wondering if anyone knows of any pre-made pcb art on a
site somewhere where I can make my own.

(I know...it's a long shot)

and quite possibly.....a stupid question.

Umm... IIRC your original post said your layout software had only 50 mil
resolution. If that's the case what good is fine pitch art going to do you?

Assuming that you need 0.025" pitch than lay out everything 2:1 and reduce.

There's expresspcb.com, using their miniboard size you get three
boards for $50-odd USD, you can make palletize 20 soic-8 to DIP 8
adapters on each board and cut them apart yourself (don't breathe the
dust) and you'll have a bunch for about a dollar each.
I've done a soic-8 to DIP 8 on a corner of a board. Also, there's a
yahoogroups email list somewhere dedicated to swapping parts
definitions for the lastest version of expresspcb's software. I
suspect they would have several SMT/DIP layouts.

(I know...it's a long shot)

and quite possibly.....a stupid question.

Download the Pulsonix demo: http://www.pulsonix.com

It's limited to 100 pins but that should be plenty for you, and will
allow you to go down to 1 mil tracks.

Umm... Once EBG has the artwork EBG can go straight to fab. No software tool
involved. Or did I miss something?

This is a good idea. But it calls for the ability to reduce with
precision. I'm not the OP, but just out of curiosity, do you know a good
way to reduce precisely?

Thanks for the ideas....I didn't think about reducing in print.

But as it turns out, I went ahead and downloaded the demo for my upgrade and
it will let you print....but not save.

Seeing as how I'm doing simple 15 minute adapter boards
print is all I need as I'm going to etch them myself.

(I'll try not to feel guilty).

Some demo's that will not let you save can be cheated in the following way:
Select All, Copy to clipboard, Save clipboard with Windows tool.
Retreive and paste to get back the saved work.

My understanding was that the OP wanted to incorporate canned fine pitch
art into his existing design. If that's not the case then my humble
apologies...
