Hi everybody

Iam sorry to post this odd topic. Iam in need of some suggestion to
protect my mail id from spam mail.

My mail box fill up in a day or two with those junk mails.

So I tried to change my mail id associated with the NG account with a
fake one.

But unfortunately it is not taking effect.
I don't really understand what is going wrong or Iam going the dark
way.

Thanks to all

Some spammers retain email addresses for a long time. And some free
email services like Yahoo is spam magnet.

Many of us use a bogus address for the header, and put our
real addresses in "munged" form as part of the signature line
at the end of the post. The idea is that most spammers get
your address from robot harvesters that scan for classical-looking
address text, of the form "myname@somewhere.com". So you
want to make it so a real human can decipher it, but not a simple
machine algorithm.

I use a program called mailwasher pro which shows you the what's and where's
of your emails BEFORE you download them. Then, if there are some you
recognize as spam, you can bounce them back to the sender.
Try visiting www.firetrust.com

You can download the free version and, if you like it, you can register it
for US$29.95. I have been running it for about 2 years now (earlier
versions) and it has decreased the number of spams i get drastically.

I am not commercially affiliated with firetrust or mailwasher, i am just a
satisfied customer.

My question is for all those who have changed there email id with a
fake one.

Google sends a verification mail to that fake id and you have to visit
the confirmation url for the effect to take place.

If you are placing a fake id that mail will bounce back, so it will be
useless.
But many people the doing the same.

How it is done?

You're asking questions that should be asked in the
news.admin.net-abuse.email newsgroup. Forget the answwers here.
Also, ask your provider.

Changing the _displayed_ email address just means you'll
get no new attacks through that addy (if it's bogus), but
you'll continue to get them because you haven't changed your
true email address.

OK, I just changed the way my email address appears (I hope).

Let's see if this works.

I once got some spam that had the addressees in the clear.
Next to my email address was the one I had right before it,
both user names were the same with only the domain changing.
The first address had only been valid for four months (the
"freenet" lived only that long), and was at least six years
in the past when I got the spam.

It's good to see testing where someone actually puts content
in the message.

I just followed good examples. Besides, what I was
testing was not only relevant to the OP, but I wanted to
_set_ an example. Finally, I got it right.
