Stepper Motor Control Card for CNC Mill

Hi all

I want to have a go at building a small CNC mill for timber and plastic
cutting and was wondering if anybodys seen a controller card like these
in australia somewhere.

I have seen some at jaycar/dicksmith but they are only to suit one
motor, but can be daisy chained together, but i'm concerned on how the
software will go recognising 4 boards (I want 4 degrees of movement
x,y,z and rotation between centres) and even then i'm looking at over
$120au for 4 cards.

also a source for second hand stepper motors to suit would be handy as
well, otherwise i'll have to fork out for these ones listed on the web
page.

I use the stepper control board from the same company to control a cnc
foam cutter. Iordered the kit form and half a dozen stepper motors via
email and found their service to be excellent. The parcel from their
shipping centre turned up here at least a week earlier than I expected
and much earlier than anything else I've ordered from the "states".

Besides - using their control board, motors and one of the software
packages they recomend your project will be going in no time at all.

Having seen the quality of their work i can tell you that I would
charge a whole lot more for the product then they are If I was making
the same thing here is Aus.

Anyway it's your project - have fun. If you find another way please
share with the group.

www.futurlec.com.au has a stepper motor board and smaller stepper motors.
They also sell the driving IC separately if you want them, and mosfets if
you need more grunt.

thanks for the info, looks like I might be better off buying through
them. I'm not really clued up on electronics, but have built a few Dick
Smith kits etc. are these boards difficult to assemble?

Hi Dee,
The kits are not difficult to assemble, well laid out. The heat sinks
for the resistors requires some basic marking and metal work skills
otherwise very basic kit. Very comprehensive instructions leave
nothing to chance and cover several types of motor combinations.
