Anyone know whether this is a thinly disguised MC34063?

Its definitely a switcher of some sort.

Thanks.

If you think so, take the sample circuit used for the Motorola IC, and
use it to trace the circuit. If it's a match, then chances are good it is
the same IC. If there is difference, not likely.

They're from a low spec freeview box, I just had a quick look at the numbers
and jotted it down for when I'm at the PC - the similarity didn't click at
the time.

They're not worth a great deal of time and effort if they're 34063 - there's
a few in the draw bought from Farnell a while back.

Sorry. I assumed you were fixing something and needed a replacement, so
you'd have the board there to check out.

I've traced things, and then said "that looks a lot like this..." and
checked, and once I redrew the traced circuit to match the circuit I saw
somewhere, realize it was very close to the same thing.

Or that time I bought a 99cent FM radio, the ones with the up and reset
buttons, I couldn't read the number on the IC. But knew about the
Signetics TDA7000, checked that, but it wasn't a match. But Signetics
pointed to a couple of other ICs, and one of them was a match once, I
compared the sample circuit with what was on the 99cent radio board.

The only through-hole parts are the chips themselves, the inductors and the
diodes. Everything else is SMD, that makes hand tracing just that little bit
more hard work - it'll probably sit in the gash boards box until sometime I
get bored.

Saw some of those last time I went in Poundland - curiosity nearly got the
better of me, but just not quite.
