A Boynton Beach man is facing child abuse charges after police said he
punched a 7-year-old boy in the face Sunday night for leaving a food
bowl in his room.
Oraine Goulbourne, 28, was arrested by Boynton Beach Police on Thursday
afternoon. He remained without bond at the Palm Beach County Jail today.
Police were called to a Boynton Beach Elementary school Thursday
afternoon, where an investigator with the state Department of Children
and Families was looking into a child abuse allegation.
The boys teacher had called DCF after the boy on Wednesday had
complained in class that his left ear hurt. At that time, the teacher
said she noticed reddish discoloration on the boys face, with a
distinct abrasion on the left side.
When the teacher asked the boy what had happened, the boy said a friend
had pushed him to the ground.
But on Thursday, the boy complained again that his ear hurt. This time,
however, his account of how he got injured was different. The boy, who
was crying, told his teacher Goulbourne allegedly punched him in the face.
The teacher, who said the boy was fearful and told her he did not want
to get in trouble, took a closer look at the injuries and saw fingers
imprinted on the boys face.
After contacting the school nurse, the boy said he had been hit for
leaving a bowl in his room. The nurse checked the boys left ear, and
saw dried blood inside.
Police contacted the boys mother, who said she was present when
Goulbourne struck the boy because he had kicked Goulbourne as he threw a
tantrum. It is unclear if Goulbourne is the boys father.
