I was wondering if such a beast exist? something that would turn my
Tektronics Digital Osc into a crude scanning spectrum analyser???

Say from couple of Hz to couple of GHz??

I'd say you were better off getting a unit to turn your pc into one
several can be found with a google search
possibly available as a kit from jaycar

I'd love to see you find one that goes to "a couple of GHz" :)

yeah, they are even suitable for beginners. I'm in the market for a spectrum
analyser out to 1ghz, USA ebay is the best bet, 1-2k USD for a HP or
Tektronix from a reputable Ebay dealer with more then 100-150 feedbacks who
will ship internationally.

There are a few spectrum analyser plugins for scopes available. Forget
the names and details though, but I think they regularly get
advertised in the various electronics mags in Aus and overseas. One is
shaped like a logic probe ("RF Probe" maybe it's called?) and sells
for under $1000.

Dave :)

Not a PC adapter from Jaycar though is it :)

There are some but the only ones I have seen are for the Tektronix 7000
series mainframes. They even make one up to 18GHz as far as I know.
However, even the 100KHz to 1.8GHz versions (their part numbers start
with 7L..) are usually almost $1000 used here in the US. A bit pricey,
considering that a new Hameg is just over $2k and is much more
portable.

Good day, Joerg
