spare for "navigation control" (slight O.T)

Hi,

I know it's slightly off topic; I'm repairing a video remote-control
for a friend...the "navigation control" switch is broken. I've tried
SES (Leeds) [now Yorkshire Multimedia or somesuch] for spare parts
with no success. Farnell doesn't have anything similar either.

The remote is a Sony RMT-V223A, and the navigation switch part
internally has an octagonal black plastic body with metal shaft, and
is a through-hole component with 6 contacts (two sets of 3 on
diametrically opposite octagonal faces)...
There's no manufacturers name or part number (as far as I can see)
although there is a sort-of isoceles triangle symbol roughly printed
on the top surface.
Does this part sound familiar to anyone? Any idea of a manufacturer
or potential source of spares?

[Whole replacement remotes (Original) are upwards of Ł50/ea so I'd
prefer to repair myself!]

Thanks,

Andrew

We've been through this one. Sony does not sell the spare parts, or service
information for this remote. They will tell you that you have to replace the
complete remote. This is what happened on our end each time this happened.

The navigation switch is sensitive, and will break easily if the customer is
rough with it, or presses it too hard too often. It is not well made.
Unfortunately you need this remote in order to get in to the menus of the
set. Universal remotes will not do the functions.

One thing that may work for the menus is if you can use the remote for
another Sony model that is compatible, and has no navigation switch. This
would take some trail and error. Take care to not overlook functions that
the customer will need that are on the original remote. This is the drawback
when substituting remotes.
