Hi,

Can someone provide me with information about the sound chip/hardware
in my Compaq Presario 1230 laptop? What company made the sound chip?
If I knew, perhaps I can find the right sound driver.

I have not been able to download a Windows 98se sound driver that "works".
www.hp.com does NOT have a sound driver (Win9*/ME/XP) for this model laptop!
Note: There are other drivers, etc. at hp.com for this model laptop, but no
sound driver!!!

At http://members.driverguide.com, I download drivers ("DRIVERS.ZIP" and
"XAUDIO.ZIP") for this model laptop, but nothing "worked" for sound.

I tried a Diagnostic tool, downloaded from hp.com for this model, but all
I have learned about the sound hardware is, "Integrated 16 bit sound,
revision 4.12, port 220". Note: The sound hardware is not defective.

Thanks in advance, Brad

Before you type your password, credit card number, etc.,
be sure there is no active keystroke logger (spyware) in your PC.

This system uses a Cyrix MediaGX processor. The MediaGX processor
integrates a sound system.

I don't know why HP would not be providing the driver. The Compaq
Presario 1215 uses the same processor and the driver is available for
it:

Yes, this is the Windows 95 driver. It is the only choice available,
and it works fine on Windows 98/98SE.

Hi,

Disregard my previous post(s).

I now have sound via "XAUDIO.ZIP" which I already downloaded from
http://members.driverguide.com.

The problem was the "SETUP.BAT" (faulty).

Thanks to everyone for your help.

Brad
