Hi,

My girlfriend borrowed one of these neat little recorders, but she's
broken it. The recording level is very low (I've checked that the Att
switch is set to 0db), and it seems the recording level control on the
side has come loose. I'm thinkinh about opening it up to have a look,
but I'm wondering what on earth to expect in there...

Any ideas?

I have done a couple of repairs on this model and I have one at home.
IIRC this is a simple re-joint with a fine soldering iron.
Also the jack sockets on this type of thing also sometimes get scummed
up from being in pockets. Squeeze some isopropyl in the sockets with a
fine squeezy dispenser eg radio spares 497-375.


As it's borrowed (they are a few hundred dollars) I suggest a repair
centre look at it.

There is quite a lot of kit involved in the setup of this model and
manual states some Sony specialist tools for alignment and an
attenuator. The service centres at/via Sony shops are quite good value
and I wish I'd used them for my last repair on a small piece of sony kit
an sw-100F.

Youi have checked the batteries in the microphone (if you're not using
the line I/P from other audio product) have you?
